Natural Causes

Because my son saw the round hay bales--
1200 pounds apiece, shrink-wrapped in white plastic--
lining the fields,
we have had to search all evening
for marshmallows.
Two stores were out. Another
had one stale and shrunken bag.
The fourth had three bags, but no wood for fire,
so we went back to the first.
And I needed newspaper to start the kindling,
which is how I know Earl Softy died Monday,
at home, in his sleep, of natural causes. So rarely
we know how we know what we know.
Don't turn the page. Sit with us awhile,
here by the fire in New Hampshire.
Have a marshmallow.
Because my wife and I love each other
and wanted something of, and more than, ourselves;
because my little son has imagined heaven in the pasture land,
even death tastes sweet.

1. What is your favorite theme song?
At the risk of being laughed off LiveJournal, probably "The Morning After" from The Poseidon Adventure. "People Alone," from The Competition, is a close second and if anyone knows where I can get a recording of that (or if anyone can record it off a VHS copy of the movie to disc) I would dearly love to know.
Oh wait, is "theme song" by definition for something on television? In that case, and this is just as humiliating, it's a tie between Laverne and Shirley and Angie, with honorable mention to Dawson's Creek.
2. What is your favorite soundtrack?
One? *sobs* Oh, fine, Ennio Morricone's for The Mission, very very closely followed by Howard Shore's for The Fellowship of the Ring, and in five years' time when I can perhaps evaluate the two of them objectively without such a huge level of emotional connection to the latter that clouds my objective judgment, that may reverse. If adapted soundtracks from Broadway musicals count, though, it might be Evita anyway, closely followed by Hair.
3. What song(s) reminds you of your fandom(s)?
Absolutely everything by October Project puts me in mind of Lord of the Rings (this is ashinae's fault and I'm sure divineway agrees with me). All of Lisa Moscatiello's English folk songs make me think of M&C. And -- okay, this is embarrassing but I'm already in howling zone -- I discovered Garth Brooks during DS9's waning days, so I associate an absurd number of Garth Brooks songs with DS9.
4. What song reminds you of your pairing?
My current OTP? For some reason all my mental Jack/Stephen songs are angsty, which is strange because I really think of them as far less angsty than, say, Aragorn/Boromir. I've put most of the songs on icons, too: Sting's "Why Should I Cry For You," CSN's "Southern Cross," TOFOG's "Other Ways of Speaking," and for the past couple of weeks it's been November Project's "It Is Time." For Remus/Sirius it's Mary Beth's "A More Perfect World," for A/B it's "Return To Me" and Loreena McKennitt's "Dante's Prayer" (again, I blame ashinae and her vids, with the greatest of joy). But if we want to go way back... vertigo66, can you listen to "You Needed Me" without that moment of "Eeeee! K/S!" going through your mind?
5. What songvid best represents your fandom? Provide a URL if it's available online.
California Crew made a Janeway/Chakotay songvid to Survivor's "In Good Faith" more than five years ago. As far as I know, it's not available online. When I need a Voyager fix to remind me how it felt to be in love with that show, I don't put on an episode, I put on that vid.
