Sleep by Thomas Bailey Aldrich When to oft sleep we give ourselves away, And in a dream as in a fairy bark Drift on and on through the enchanted dark To purple daybreak -- little thought we pay To that sweet bitter world we know by day. We are clean quit of it, as is a lark So high in heaven no human eye can mark The thin swift pinion cleaving through the gray. Till we awake ill fate can do no ill, The resting heart shall not take up again The heavy load that yet must make it bleed; For this brief space the loud world's voice is still, No faintest echo of it brings us pain. How will it be when we shall sleep indeed?

Belated Friday Five: What one thing are you most looking forward to... 1. ...today? Having time to read. 2. ...over the next week? Kids back in school, giving me time to try to get my own life in order. 3. ...this year? Traveling. Still not entirely sure where, yet (American South, Stratford, ONT and various other North American places potentially on agenda). 4. ...over the next five years? Still traveling. Going to Europe and the South Pacific. 5. ...for the rest of your life? ONE thing? My fiftieth wedding annivesary, with my grandchildren in attendance.
Gacked from communicator, who was Emma Goldman and I am jealous! Was Mary Wollstonecraft, or her daughter Mary Shelley, a possibility? That's more me, because I am not depressed enough (and like sex too much) to be:
You are Virginia Woolf! You were openly bisexual and had public affairs, but you never liked sex. You wrote a seminal feminist work, long before feminists knew that they were feminists. In this vein, you never really considered yourself a feminist. You were a tragic figure, but a damn genius. Which Western feminist icon are you? brought to you by Quizilla
Incidentally, if I change the answer about whose sex life mine is most like (none of them are perfect descriptors anyway), I am Angela Davis, which rocks. |
